Letter Writing Assignment
Write a letter to Leonardo DiCaprio. Thank him for making this movie – this is going to be a very important part of history, and hopefully it will prompt a change. Tell him what you’ve learned from the movie. Tell him about your favorite (or the most impactful) one or two examples from the movie of either climate change or what we need to do to stop climate change. Also, tell him what you plan to do to make change based on what you learned from the movie.
Dear
Mr DiCaprio.
My
name is Azucena Lozano; I am an English language student at The Official
Languages School in León, Spain. Last week we watched in class your movie After the Flood which has deeply made an
impact on me.
I
would like to thank you for your generous gesture of investing your time and
effort in making this committed documentary .Sharing it all around the world
will make a difference for us to be concerned with global warming and act
urgently to stop it. Let me say that I
only knew your work as an actor, I was pleasantly shocked when I discovered you as an
environmental activist talking to the most worldwide influential people in all
fields: from politicians to researchers.
There
are lots of impactful images in the documentary. If I had to mention some ,I would choose for
example, people in China wearing
breathing masks, or the huge lorries with palm oil; although the whole documentary is shocking and emotionally heartbreaking for me. We need
to bring up new generations to preserve our planet, to support politicians who
defend sustainable energies and to live and behave as eco-friendly as we can.
Thanks
again for your time and generosity.
Sincerely,
Azucena.

Dear Leonardo DiCaprio,
I would like to thank you for such an impactful movie.
I think it will motivate people to change their mindfulness and be more
conscious of the effect they have on the environment and the repercussions that
this brings to our planet. After all, this is where we all live.
I loved the whole movie but above all there were two parts
that drew my attention the most. The first when you were riding in a helicopter
over a dilapidated area by the spills of the factories – you called that
“Mordor” as in “The Lord of the Rings”, because that reflected the real impact
of industry and the consequences of toxic spills on land, rivers, and so on.
The second part when it showed that in India many people don’t have electricity
or they are running out of water because it helped me appreciate my life. We
are in the 21st century! I cannot imagine getting up in the morning and turning
the tap on to discover there is no water to wash my face, make lunch, or have a
shower. What would happen if I had to go to the river to draw water every
morning to make the dinner?
I think we need to be more aware of climate change,
put into practice the five R’s (refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose and recycle)
and teach our children how important it is to protect the environment. We only
have one planet “the Earth”.
Yours sincerely,
Ana Isabel
