Mediation

Nowadays regarding English certification exams in EOI in B1, B2, C1 and C2, mediation has become a buzz word. The more we hear it, the more overwhelmed students feel as they think they have never done this. But, actually, that’s not true; we are all familiar with mediation even in our mother tongue.

Basically, MEDIATION has to do with solving and dealing with problems we come up with in communication in our daily life. Generally speaking, when we are asked to mediate, we have to: 

  • Summarise
  • Simplify
  • Adapt
  • Paraphrase
  • Translate
  • Clarify

And we will be told to do this from Spanish into English (interlinguistic mediation) or from English into another register of English (intralinguistic mediation). Besides, mediation can be ORAL or WRITTEN
